About Abrabopa Cocoa

Ghanaian-owned. Farmer-oriented. Accountable by design.

We combine ethical farmer service, quality-focused purchasing and controlled cocoa movement in a professionally managed Ghanaian company.

Our roots

Cocoa for a better life.

Cocoa Abrabopa Association (CAA) began in 2006 as a small pilot project in Bonsu Nkwanta. It grew to reach farmers across Ghana’s cocoa-growing areas and is now headquartered in Kumasi. Today, the Association has more than 5,000 smallholder farmer members.

CAA is an independent, non-political, nonprofit organisation created for and by Ghanaian cocoa farmers. It helps members build better lives by developing their skills, strengthening their farms and promoting sustainable cocoa production. The name Cocoa Abrabopa means “Cocoa for a better life.”

CAA’s mission is to improve farmers’ livelihoods and incomes through gender equity and sustainable cocoa production. To support financial security during working life and retirement, CAA established a private pension scheme governed by six licensed trustees, including an independent trustee, under a signed Trust Deed.

CAA has participated in certification programmes since 2009, including UTZ and Rainforest Alliance certification.

Our connection

A farmer organisation and its buying company.

In response to changing market conditions, CAA’s Council decided to establish its own local cocoa buying company, Abrabopa Cocoa Ltd. Its Ghana Cocoa Board dealer’s licence took effect on 1 October 2026.

Abrabopa Cocoa Ltd.’s main shareholder is African Tiger Holding Limited, CAA’s corporate founder. African Tiger has long-term investments in agriculture, real estate and property development, sports, hospitality and financial services. CAA is the company’s other shareholder.

CAA works closely with Amsterdam-based Ascot Trading, which sells CAA certified cocoa beans from Ghana to buyers around the world. Its long-term buyer relationships support sustainability programmes and other initiatives that benefit farmers, their communities and the cocoa industry.

Our authorisation

The Ghana Cocoa Board issued Abrabopa Cocoa Limited an Internal Marketing of Cocoa Dealer’s Licence authorising the company to operate in Ghana’s internal cocoa market.
